Here's a sampling.
Friday was marked during the game by Mark Lawrenson, who so frustrated the Cardiff forward with his close attention that Friday waited for Lawrenson to attempt a slide tackle and then kicked him in the face.[11] After receiving a red card, Friday left the ground with the game still going on; according to legend, before leaving he broke into the Brighton dressing room and defecated in Lawrenson's kit bag.
Fair play, who wouldn't have done the same?

A sad story of a player that completely flushed his career down the toilet, from marrying a black girl against both family's wishes to drinking and drugging himself to death at an early age.
Shocking

In the 70's as a young teen I was never allowed into London for football, so had to make do with visiting my local club ... which was Reading. They had a terrific keeper, Steve Death who was ex West Ham, and only 5' 8'', but brilliant in the old Div 3 / Div 4. Robin Friday was centre forward, and on the pitch he was everything people say of him. If he was in the mood he was great to watch and scored some cracking goals. The manager at the time was Charlie Hurley, who knew he had this great talent on the pitch, but also knew he was a complete nutter and virtually unmanageable.

Been a few threads on here about him over the years and that Lawrenson story is a favourite.
Another one I like is that he got on a train somewhere to go and sign for another club and met the manager. After speaking to him, he turned the offer down and when asked why said something like "I'm half your age and have lived twice your life" and then got on another train back to Reading or wherever he was playing at the time!
He's meant to have scored an absolute worldy from some ridiculous distance but it was never recorded as lower league football just wasn't covered at all in those days and football coverage in general was limited, unlike today.

Brilliant book, read it some years ago. It makes you sad that every match played wasn't recorded as it is now.
Of course if it was, the title would be stupid.

The greatest footballer you never saw, is a great read. His kit bag used to contain a pack of fags and a bottle of whiskey!
